Advanced X Video Converter is one of the more popular video converters on the market; however, it’s input and output selection is sparse comparatively and it seemed to have difficulty converting many of our test videos.
According to manufacture AoA Media, Advanced X supports the input of common files like WMV, AVI, MPEG, MOV; unfortunately, our MPEG to AVI and MOV to AVI test converted without sound. Additionally, Advanced X Video Converter doesn’t support some common output files like MP4 for iPod, FLV Flash for YouTube or VOB files associated with DVDs. We were also surprised Advanced X had no mention or support of portable devices. Although you can adjust video dimensions to fit players that support Windows Media files.
If the software worked to its fullest potential it would be great for the advanced user, especially those with a strong understanding of AVI codecs. Advanced X Video Converter presented options including container, a bitrate calculator, zones, profile levels and more. To the novice user this seems intimidating.
Even though Advanced X only supports a minimal number of formats, the most unfortunate aspect of the software is that it didn’t work properly.
