ImTOO MPEG Encoder is one of the most versatile and easy to use video converter products we evaluated. With the ImTOO MPEG Encoder you can convert your favorite video and audio files to the formats you need. ImTOO MPEG Encoder supports 43 input file types and more than two dozen popular audio and video output files. Including those for iPod, Zune, PSP and Blackberry.
You can also manually adjust several advanced features like bitrate, codec and sample rate. You can even extract audio from your video files. However, ImTOO MPEG Encoder is far from perfect. ImTOO MPEG Encoder has a few quirks that you need to get used to; additionally, it does not include editing tools, nor does it have the ability to merge multiple file types or convert YouTube videos.ImTOO MPEG Encoder Screenshots. ImTOO MPEG Encoder can convert 43 different file types including popular files like AVI, WMV, MOV, MP4 and MPEG. It will also convert less popular files including NUT, M4V, SWF, DV and more.
We really liked that ImTOO MPEG Encoder supported and converted audio files. You could also rip files directly from a CD or DVD using the DirectShow feature located in your file options.
Unfortunately, the ImTOO MPEG Encoder cannot convert flash video files, most commonly downloaded from video sharing sites like YouTube. However, ImTOO Software Studio does sell a program for about twenty dollars designed specifically for downloading and converting YouTube videos.Output Files:
One of our favorite features of the ImTOO MPEG Encoder caters to the iPod crowd. You can select a specific output for your Apple device without questioning screen dimensions. Simply select your appropriated Apple device, ie. iPhone, iPod Touch, iPod Video or Apple TV and the software will configure your video for you. ImTOO MPEG Encoder also has specific output selections for PSP, PS3, Zune and Blackberry. However, we would have liked them to include selections for other popular media players like Creative Zen and Archos.
The ImTOO MPEG Encoder passed most of our conversion tests without any problems; however, we were unable to convert a video to RealVideo (.rm) format. But, it converted our RM files to other formats without any problems.Features:
When you download the ImTOO MPEG Encoder two programs are included. The Encoder and the Wizard. The Wizard is handy for novices completely unfamiliar with video conversion. It will walk you through the process step-by-step.
The ImTOO MPEG Encoder can batch convert files with different file outputs, split output files, adjust aspect ratio, convert audio and extract audio from your videos. It will also keep your ID tags on audio files.
For advanced users, ImTOO MPEG Encoder can select video and audio codecs, video and audio bitrate, resolution, sample rate and frame rate. However, we would have liked the software to have included the ability to merge several videos into one file.Ease of Use:
If you are using the ImTOO MPEG Encoder Wizard application, converting your videos couldn’t be easier. The main application, includes a friendly interface and is very basic; however, it has a few quirks that kept it from getting a perfect score on this review.
The most frustrating problem we faced with ImTOO MPEG Encoder is that you must select your target, or output file, before adding the file you would like to convert. Otherwise, once you insert your input file the software will not allow you to change the output format.
We suspect this is because you can convert batch convert multiple files to multiple outputs. We also had difficulty renaming the file once it was uploaded into the program; however, we found you can just type in a file name in the box with the advanced options. This isn’t an issue if you use the Wizard.Help and Support:
ImTOO MPEG Encoder includes a comprehensive in-program help guide, online FAQs and email support. Our emails were answered in about a day.
Summary:
Although ImTOO MPEG Encoder doesn’t include everything we were looking for in a video convert program, it was one of the most comprehensive, easy-to-use products we could find.
